Top 5 Best mattress pad to get relief from back pain
Our Opinion on this mattress pad perfect for your back problems:
The Visco Soft mattress pad is made with several different features. The quilted topper has a pillow topper section too and both are made with 300 thread count and 100% sateen cotton fabric. It helps keeps the original mattress and the topper cool by being asleep cool topper with infused gel in the memory foam.
The Visco soft mattress topper is a great way to top your mattress without overheating it. The gel infused memory foam allows the sleeper to sleep cool and the breathable quality allows the topper to be well ventilated and not cause the sleeper to feel stuffy.
The topper is about 2.5 inches of gel infused memory foam. Memory foam allows users to enjoy contoured support for their body. The layer goes great with the 1.5 inches of pressure relief fluff support. This feature allows the contoured shape that was acquired from the memory foam to be relieved of pressure so that users wake without any pain. However, it can be a little too plush for heavyweight people.
The topper also has a quilted down pillow top cover which is made with 300 thread count and 100% sateen cotton fabric which ensures comfort. The cover is very breathable and it is made hypoallergenic so people that are sensitive to allergens can sleep easy at night. It also protects bugs from making the topper their house. The only flaw here is that there is an off-gassing which can be very dangerous. For added convenience, the mattress has elastic straps which help in making it a tight fit and easy to put on to the mattress. Taking it off and machine washing it is also an option which adds user-friendliness.
Our Opinion on this mattress pad good for lower back pain:
The Tempur Pedic Bed has certainly made the best impact on us. Its durability and tensile strength make us want to see more of it. Getting to love 3 inches of premium topper was never this easy! One of the very unique aspects of the Tempur Pedic is its 10-year warranty, which is relatively more than other mattress pad (see also best mattress topper for dorms).
The Tempur Pedic Bed is based in the US, and can ship to almost all 50 states. The extreme and easy availability of the mattress pad continues to impress us. You see, good mattress pads are hard to find, and most companies only ship to a few states. But the Tempur Pedic can be found all over the country.
As marvelous as it is, the Tempur uses a blend of polyester and propylene, lending it that smooth silky finish while also allowing breathability and strength. The pad measures 3 inches in thickness, which is great for masking the surface of the mattress if needed. The extended thickness also increases the height of the bed, and creates a barrier between microbes and the body.
This mattress topper is a great hypoallergenic, and inhibits the buildup of pollen and dust. Another great feature includes easy removability and replacement. It is not recommended to wash or dry clean the pad.
One of the many things which we adore about the Tempur Pedic is its breathable design. The polyester helps in conducting the air from the atmosphere into the pad, keeping you dry and ventilated all through the night. The temperature can be drastically reduced by the Tempur by allowing cool air to pass through the mattress, but the effect isn't as great and amplified as in gel-based memory foam.
The Tempur also promises a 10-year warranty, which is pretty impressive as most mattress pads only provide 5 or 6 years of warranty. This means that even if you are not happy with your pad, you can always return it and get a full refund, given certain conditions and prorates. This is one of the best one we tried to reduce our lumbar pain.
Our Opinion on this mattress pad good for lumbar pain:
The Puffy Mattress Pad has a lot of things to love about it; the fabric quality, the polyester filling, the premium 2-inch thickness, the perfect firmness. But what we love the most about it is its extraordinary design. Equipped with minimalism and awe, the Puffy Mattress Pad looks so intriguing yet seclusive that we just couldn’t resist. And the 101-day trial is just the beginning. A really good choice if you suffer from chronic back pain.
Puffy isn't just in the name. This mattress pad has a high level of comfort and fluffiness due to its multiple “pocket” design, which is both soft and supportive. The polyester filling does a lot in maintaining the comfort, but the fabric has its own part too.
Most pad covers nowadays are made of some high-end artificial fabric extracted from some far-fetched process, and those are usually the ones that degrade easily. The Puffy Mattress Pad uses a 100% natural solution: pure spun cotton. The thread count is estimated at 383. This cotton pad not only helps in creating breathability and ease of movement, but also feels soft and silky to the touch.
What’s more, the Puffy Mattress Pad is Oeko-Tex approved, which means that it is free from all types of harmful or poisonous chemicals. Yes, there are artificial materials and procedures involved, but the Oeko-Tex certificate is proof that none of these are poisonous or dangerous in any way. This only adds to the credibility of the topper.
The Puffy Pad is also very easy to wash and replace. While we do not know the exact washing and drying instructions, it is safe to assume that this product is machine washable. If needed, the mattress pad comes off very easily, and can be replaced at your own convenience. And what’s keeping your experience secure? The 101-day trial period. Use the mattress pad within a hundred and one nights, and if you don’t like it then you are guaranteed to get your money back. It’s so simple and convenient!
Our Opinion on this latex mattress pad for back pain:
When it comes to buying mattress toppers, we always prefer to choose one made of latex. And the reason is simple: latex is more durable and more natural. The Pure Green Latex Mattress Topper is made of 100% pure natural latex obtained from Sri Lankan forests, free from harmful chemicals, fillers, flame retardants, and the like.
Apart from that, the product has very credible and authentic certifications, being certified by Oeko-Tex and EcoInstitut. The firmness is fixed though, but we find that the varying thicknesses of the topper will be sufficient enough to create softness.Overall, we find this product to be nothing short of a miracle!
We don’t need extensive paragraphs and certifications to prove to us that this mattress pad is the best. One look at the material, and we know everything about it. There aren’t many toppers or mattresses in the market which use natural latex, even if they say they do. The Pure Green Mattress Topper is definitely one of those who stays true to their vows.
Natural latex is a great alternative to memory foam or polyester. The product is free from all harmful substances, including fillers and fire retardants. A simple microbial spray may be applied, but for the most part there aren’t many impurities in this. The best thing about latex is its durability. Since it’s natural, it is less likely to deteriorate, lasting for years to come, while your memory foam toppers rot in the back.
The topper has a fixed firmness, which is somewhere around the medium firm. Its ILD rating is around 30, which means that the foam lies somewhere in the middle on the firmness scale, but it leans slightly towards the “Firm” side.
The pinholes in the topper imitate those found in latex mattresses, and work just as great. The pinholes help to distribute weight, allowing the mattress to withstand lesser pressure (good for back pain). They also conduct air and coolness from the atmosphere all throughout the mattress, keeping you cool and ventilated. The Pure Green is definitely better at pressure relief and motion isolation than memory foams, but the gel-infused variety provides better cooling and heat wicking.
Now let’s come down to the technicalities. The Pure Green Latex Topper has been certified by a number of independent organizations, including Oeko-Tex, which tests for harmful substances, EcoInstitut, which tests for purity, and Greenguard Gold, which tests for air impurities and airborne chemicals. Since it is made of latex, the off-gassing is minimal to none. This ensures a safer and better environment.
It has also been tested by the FGA, and has been ensured to be durable and strong enough to live through the years.Information about the warranty and trial periods, however, is not yet available.
Our Opinion on this cool mattress pad:
This gel-based memory foam is certainly top-of-the-class, as it combines pressure relief with clever designs and a whole lot of softness. The pad is also very light (only 14 pounds) and while it is available in 6 different sizes, the 2-inch thickness is consistent. This makes the mattress pad stronger and more resistant, increasing its lifespan by a factor of ten.
Being officially certified by Centi-PUR US, the mattress pad is manufactured free from all types of ozone depleting agents, and is safe to use for both the user and the environment.
The Advanced Sleep Solutions Topper is one peculiar entity. On one hand it promises lower temperatures and higher standards, and on the other it shows us the futility of off-gassing. This topper is made of some of the highest standard memory foam in the US, and it even incorporates gel infusion to fulfill its promise.
Gel-based memory foams are a great choice, and might even be better than regular memory foams. The gel used is of unknown composition, but it is usually in the form of beads. This gel is visibly better at wicking away temperature and heat from the center and shifting it towards the edges. This gives the topper a cool surface to sleep on.
What we love most about this mattress pad is that it is Centi-PUR US certified. The extra certification proves a number of things. First, that the mattress is not integrated with any sort of ozone depleters, formaldehyde, PBDE, TDCPP, TCEP based flame retardants, mercury, lead, heavy metals, poisons, and phthalates forbidden by the CPSC. Secondly, the VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) emission (also known as “off-gassing”) is minimal, at just half a part per million. Off gassing is a major hazardous and environmental issue in memory foam. This all means that the mattress pad is exceptionally safe to use.
As with all memory foam, this one is viscoelastic, which means that it is exceptionally amiable at body contouring and motion isolation. But this is nothing new with pads based on gel-based memory foam. Another thing which struck us as pretty common was that the pad is 2 inches thick, which is kind of a trend nowadays in mainstream memory pads. But the pad is lightweight, weighing in at only 14 pounds, and we have to give that one to it.
The pad comes with a 60-day return policy, which secures the money that you spent on it. The warranty is a bit short-lived (only 3 years), whereas most pads provide at least 5 years, and some even 10. But despite all that, it still made its way to our top 5 list!
Latex or Memory Foam: Which mattress pad is Better for back pain?
Buying a mattress pad is just like buying an entire mattress. There are a hundred different styles and options to choose from, and the overwhelming number of choices usually leaves u confused and dazed. We just cannot decide which type of mattress pad is the best for us.
Mattresses and mattress pads are usually made of three types of fillings: latex, memory foam and polyester. All three of these have their own advantages and disadvantages, their merits and demerits. Two of the three types are discussed in detail below.
Latex Mattress Pad:
Mattresses made from latex are some of the finer and highly expensive varieties. These may use artificial latex or natural latex, or a combination of both. Latex is a type of rubber extracted from the rubber tree. The chief source produces a milky fluid known as latex, although this fluid is present in at least 10% of all angiosperms. This product is also manufactured artificially on a large scale, usually from polystyrene or polyisoprene.
Latex mattress pads have a number of advantages that make them worth the while, including:
- Enhanced durability (more than memory foam and polyester)
- Enhanced firmness.
- Better pressure relief and motion isolation, especially in those that feature “pinholes”.
- Easier to wash and clean.
However, a number of factors make latex unreliable:
- Softness is harder to achieve.
- Higher prices (as much as $1000, though a $200 topper is sufficient).
- Off-gassing (VOC emissions) can be present, although not in the natural ones.
Natural Latex Pad:
Many toppers and mattresses claim to be “100% natural”, but are usually just a blend of natural and artificial latex. Only a few brands provide the kind of purity that is needed. Natural latex is free from all types of human intervention, and has a number of benefits:
- Healthier and safer. Artificial latex may create some harmful substances such as ozone-depleting agents or formaldehyde, but natural latex is free from all such health hazards.
- Most artificial latex mattress toppers use “fillers” to water down the latex, but a 100% pure latex topper will use no such thing. Most natural ones are 100% pure and free from all impurities,
- Off-gassing is minimal to none. Due to the part where the latex is processed, the material may produce some VOC emissions. However, a natural latex topper usually does not produce such offensive gases and compounds.
Natural latex also has its own cons, such as:
- May not be as durable as the treated artificial toppers.
- Quality may be lowered, as many artificial ones are tailored to a customer’s need.
- Prices run pretty high.
Memory Foam Mattress Pad:
Memory foam was invented in 1966 by NASA as a solution to providing extra cushioning to spacecraft seats. Soon the technology made its way into our homes and living rooms. Memory foam mattresses are made of polyurethane, the exact same substance which other foams are made of. Save for one huge difference: they are viscoelastic. This property is what gives memory foams the characteristic body contouring feature that cannot be found with regular polyurethane foams.
Memory foams have a number of advantages, like:
- They feature body contouring. Although every mattress pad has its own level of body contouring and pressure relief, the ones found in memory foams is exceptionally high, making them ten times better and easier to use.
- Gel-based memory foams can provide temperature regulation and coolness. They wick away temperature from the center and shift it towards the edges, accounting for a cooler and lesser sweaty night.
- Most memory foams are especially durable. Since they are manufactured, they can be artificially tailored to suit any type of user.
However, memory foams themselves present some challenges:
- Off-gassing. Memory foams are known to emit slightly toxic VOC gasses, which is pretty harmful to the air in general and sometimes even to the user. This emission is incredibly more than polyester or latex mattress pads.
Although we may think that a mattress pad can never make a huge difference, all our experiences speak otherwise. For us, being picky when it comes to toppers has actually proven to be quite beneficial, albeit a bit time-consuming.
